Seasonal Saturday: Preparing for One Week of Local Foods




Inspired by a project I’m doing for my Community Nutrition class, I’m preparing for one week of eating only locally grown, seasonal food.

This week’s Portland Farmers Market haul includes:

Strawberries, blackberries, padron peppers, cherry tomatoes, violet radishes, spearmint, and cabbage from Groundwork Organics

Spinach raab, oregano, rainbow beets from Simington Gardens

Basil, tarragon, chives, and squash blossoms from Gathering Together Farm

Whole wheat sourdough, rosemary, and rolled oats (not pictured) from Gee Creek Farm

Pastured lamb, beef, and chicken eggs from SuDan Farm

Chèvre from Fraga Farm

Shiitake mushrooms from Rick's Wild Mushrooms
